tranquility in Galle Fort

1740 is one of the oldest buildings in the Fort. Dating back to the era of Dutch residential building in the 1740s, it is one of the original 44 houses on Pedlar Street. Purchased as a private residence in 2010, the villa has been painstakingly renovated by a team of craftsmen. It now offers a tranquil retreat in the heart of Galle Fort.

serenity in Sri Lanka

Behind inobtrusive teak gates on Parawa Street is a peaceful three-bedroom holiday hideaway which can accommodate 7 people including children. The recent renovation marries classic Dutch architecture and contemporary minimalism to create a serene home from home. Our third floor roof terrace - frequented by peacocks dawn and dusk - offers sunset views of terracotta-tiled rooftops and the Indian Ocean.

1740 is the perfect place from which to explore Asia’s oldest living breathing fort.
